Teak Construction Group Social Procurement & Sustainability Policy

Teak Construction Group Social Procurement & Sustainability Policy

Teak Construction Group’s Social Procurement and Sustainability Policy is our kaupapa (policy) for social procurement and sustainable practices. This policy sets out a number of practical guidelines to ensure Teak Construction Group’s actions always positively impact our team, build partners and members of the community.

Teak Construction Group is committed to using procurement for social good, as well as building sustainability into everything we do. We manage these practices throughout every build, including a number of ongoing social and sustainability initiatives such as:

  • Enabling young tradesmen to gain an education through apprenticeship programmes.
  • Praciting manaakitanga (compassion and generosity) by looking after our staff, paying all Teak Construction Group staff a living wage and ensuring all our subcontractors do the same.
  • Championing diversity by encouraging the use and development of Māori, Pacifica and other cultures through the use of language and cultural practices.
  • Liaising with Iwi and other cultural groups to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and the wider social impact Teak Construction Group can have.

Teak Construction Group’s social production and sustainability policy is designed to ensure we think beyond our bottom line to take care of our employees, clients, local communities and the environment.

Our Commitment

Teak Construction Group sees sustainable practices and social procurement policies as a way to meet the needs of our people and local communities. It’s important to us that we provide opportunities that enrich our people, while ensuring that those same opportunities are available for future generations.

Identification of the social needs

  • What is the purpose of the social procurement and sustainability for this project?
  • Who will be impacted by the procurement?
  • Who are the stakeholder and what are their needs/ expectations?
  • Who are the major internal clients and what are their highest needs?
  • Who are the major external recipients of the goods/services and what are their highest needs?
  • What are the similarities and differences of the needs between the two groups and how can Teak Construction Group fill this gap?

Through this initial consultation with stakeholders Teak Construction Group identify individual and overlapping and competing needs. We record these as a statement of needs that will then become available to all internal and external parties involved with the project. This statement will then be developed into a detailed specification of requirements that Teak Construction Group will then become the managers of throughout the project.

Scope

  • Gain a good understanding of the environment we are operating in, plan to maximise the social outcome for the duration of the project. Aim to leave a lasting positive social impact.
  • Throughout the duration of the project track progress of our social goals by monitoring, measuring, reviewing, and evaluating as we go to ensure we are achieving our set goals. Consult with all relevant parties to ensure everyone is satisfied and adjust where needed.
  • Learn for successes and missed opportunities. Ensure a constant review is being completed of internal and external parties. Modify our practices and goals to achieve maximum impact.
  • Report our results internally and externally to promote transparency.
  • Always seek for continuous improvements.

  • Document and share out goals for the duration of the project to secure a delivery model planned approach with internal and external parties.
  • Create a specific programme for skills and training – enabling our development strategy to be adopted easily for our build partners.
  • Constant development of skills, trade specific, technical and health and safety related.
